ABOUT ME

Art has really been a part of my life from the beginning of my schooling. I started creating artwork in grade school. My love for automobiles and airplanes motivated me to get better in my artwork. The detail of cars and airplanes really intrigued me and it showed in my work. Cars really made me want to learn and understand perspective and shading better. My father has a beautiful 1957 Belair, and ever since I've been making art, the car has become a reoccurring subject matter in my work. The fact that it is very hard for me to physically get into cars is another emotional influence in my work also.

My disability started affecting my work when I was in high school. I was getting tired more quickly and had to work on a very small scale. My wrist would drag across my paper and smear my drawings up. I then moved to working on the computer. This opened so many possibilities and furthered my art education. The computer also put me on a level playground with everyone else. I picked up oil painting towards the end of college thanks to a great professor. No matter what media I use, my style and touch still shows in the art work.

The pencil is of coarse the roots of my artistic journey. I also started out using acrylics and dabbled in clay as a teenager. My main media, however, has been digital. I have experience with many software packages such as: Photoshop, Illustrator, Infinity3D, FlashMX, but my favorite by far is Painter. Painter is a program that simulates many art tools that one could use. I have used traditional art techniques, and have applied it to the computer. The results come out much like real mediums. I also work in oils and use a painting assistant to mix paints and clean brushes. This is a pretty new thing for me and I continue to learn and become better at oils.

The fact I got in on digital art at a very early time in its existence was very interesting. It was very gratifying and heartbreaking at the same time. Many would be captivated by my artwork and I would get praise. Others treated me as if I was cheating and or scanning / altering photographs. My hours of freehand drawing with the mouse seemed to be not worth the flack I was getting for it. Studying acting and singing in high school and college was also a significant experience in the arts for me. I was in great productions such as “Music Man”, “Westside Story”, and “How to Succeed In Business, Without Really Trying”. Being disabled doesn't mean you can't bring across human emotion. Dancing chorography and stage blocking was the most interesting part the acting process. The voice and face is all you need to be an effective actor. Singing kept my breath support strong and in my opinion has affected my health in a positive way.
